Trams crossing ahead
A red triangle showing a tram warns that trams cross or run ahead - be ready to give way to them.

What it means
Trams run on fixed rails and can't steer or stop quickly, so you give way to them and never block the rails. Where a tram route crosses the road there are extra signs, road markings and often signals. Take special care: tram tracks can be slippery for cyclists and motorcyclists, and trams are quieter than you expect.
Follow any tram signals, and don't try to race a tram to a crossing.

On your driving test
In tram cities learners are taught tram rules: give way to trams, keep off the rails, and obey tram signals. Elsewhere you're unlikely to be tested on it, but the sign is worth knowing.
