Traffic signals ahead
A red triangle showing a traffic light warns that traffic signals are ahead - often round a bend or over a crest where you can't see them yet.

What it means
It tells you signals are coming so a red light won't catch you out. Ease off, be ready to stop, and start reading the lights as soon as they come into view - a green that has been green a while may be about to change.

Where you'll see it
On the approach to signal-controlled junctions where visibility is limited, and at temporary lights around roadworks.

On your driving test
Examiners want early planning: cover the brake, check mirrors, and approach at a speed that lets you stop smoothly if the light changes. Racing to 'beat' a light is a serious fault.
