What it means
It warns of people walking in or crossing the road where there's no footway, or a spot where pedestrians often step out. Ease off, cover the brake, and give them plenty of room.

Country lanes with no pavement, and near markets and busy spots. Different signs exist for elderly people and for children near schools.
