What it means
Giving the right signal for what you are about to do, so others read your intention correctly.
What a fault looks like
The wrong indicator, or one left on after a turn, is a driving fault; a wrong signal that leads another driver to pull out can be serious.
What learners get wrong
Leaving the indicator flashing after a turn or roundabout exit because it did not self-cancel, so it now says the opposite of what you are doing.
What we recommend
Glance at the dash after any turn to check the signal has cancelled, and cancel it by hand if it has not.
