What it means
Reading and reacting to road markings in good time - lane lines, arrows, give-way and stop lines, box junctions, and hatched areas.
What a fault looks like
Straddling a lane line, or reacting late, is a driving fault; entering a yellow box with no clear exit, or crossing a solid white line unsafely, can be serious.
What learners get wrong
Not spotting lane arrows early enough, so the safe moment to move over has already passed by the time they are noticed.
What we recommend
Scan the road surface as well as the signs, especially approaching junctions and roundabouts. The markings tell you which lane you need before you get there.
