Response to signs / signals · Driving test fault
Other road users
What it means
Reading and responding to the signals and likely intentions of others - indicators, brake lights, cyclists' hand signals, and where pedestrians are heading.
What a fault looks like
A late reaction to someone else's signal is a driving fault; failing to respond so they have to take avoiding action is serious or dangerous.
What learners get wrong
Taking another driver's or cyclist's signal for granted, or not anticipating a pedestrian stepping out.
What we recommend
Watch what others are doing, not just the signs. Plan for the cyclist's hand signal, the bus pulling out, the child near the kerb, before they force a reaction.
