What it means
Keeping the car correctly positioned for the road and your route - roughly central in your lane, not too close to the kerb, parked cars or the centre line.
What a fault looks like
Drifting out of a good position is a driving fault; positioning that forces oncoming traffic over, or endangers cyclists and parked cars, can be serious.
What learners get wrong
Hugging the kerb on narrow roads out of nervousness, or drifting towards the centre line on bends.
What we recommend
Aim for a steady, central line and give parked cars a door's width of clearance. Position early for your route rather than drifting across at the last moment.
