Positioning · Driving test fault

Lane discipline

What it means

Choosing and keeping the correct lane for your route, following lane markings and arrows, and not straddling or drifting between lanes.

What a fault looks like

Straddling a lane line or a late lane change is a driving fault; a sudden or unchecked lane change into another vehicle is serious or dangerous.

What learners get wrong

Getting into the wrong lane at roundabouts or multi-lane junctions and then correcting it late and unsafely.

What we recommend

Read lane arrows and signs early and settle into the right lane before you get there. If you end up in the wrong one, follow it and reroute rather than cutting across.
