What it means
Turning left safely: mirror and signal in good time, keep a safe position and speed, watch for cyclists and pedestrians, and do not swing wide or cut the kerb.
What a fault looks like
Cutting the corner or a slightly wide entry is a driving fault; turning across a cyclist on your left, or onto the wrong side, is serious or dangerous.
What learners get wrong
Forgetting the cyclist or pedestrian on the nearside, or swinging out to the right first to make the turn feel easier.
What we recommend
Check your left mirror and nearside for cyclists before every left turn, keep normal position, and turn neatly without cutting the kerb.
