Control · Driving test fault
Precautions
What it means
The safety checks before you start the engine and drive off - doors closed, seat and mirrors set, seatbelt on - so the car is set up before you move.
What a fault looks like
Setting off before everything is set, or adjusting the seat or mirrors on the move, is a driving fault; a door not properly shut can be serious.
What learners get wrong
Rushing the cockpit routine at the start, then having to adjust the seat or a mirror while already driving.
What we recommend
Run the same short cockpit drill every time before you start: doors, seat, steering, mirrors, seatbelt. Set it once, properly, before you move.
