What it means
Driving at a safe, reasonable speed for the road, traffic and conditions - within the limit, but also slow enough to stop safely in the distance you can see to be clear.
What a fault looks like
Being a little too fast or too slow is a driving fault; a speed that is dangerous for a bend, a wet road or near pedestrians can be serious or dangerous.
What learners get wrong
Two opposite mistakes: creeping well under the limit and holding others up, or carrying too much speed into bends and hazards.
What we recommend
Match your speed to what you can see and the type of road, not just the number on the sign. Ease off early for bends, junctions and anywhere your view is limited.
