Clearance to obstructions
What it means
Giving parked cars, cyclists, pedestrians and other obstructions enough room as you pass - about a car door's width for parked cars, more for cyclists.
What a fault looks like
Passing a touch too close is a driving fault; passing a cyclist so close they wobble or have to move is serious or dangerous.
What learners get wrong
Squeezing past parked cars or cyclists to avoid oncoming traffic, instead of holding back until there is room.
What we recommend
Leave a door's width past parked cars and give cyclists at least as much room as a car. If there is not room, wait behind until there is.
