Driving abroad
Planning to drive on holiday, or after moving here? A few things are worth sorting before you go, especially now the UK is outside the EU. Check the specifics for each country you will drive in.

Documents to carry
- Your full driving licence, and often an International Driving Permit (IDP) - some countries require one, so check per country.
- Your passport, and the vehicle's V5C logbook if it is your own car.
- Proof of insurance. Tell your insurer you are taking the car abroad; you may need a green card for some countries.

On your own car
- A 'UK' sticker (the old 'GB' sticker is no longer valid), unless your number plate already shows 'UK' with no flag.
- Headlamp beam converters so you do not dazzle oncoming traffic, plus any kit the country requires, such as a warning triangle, hi-vis vest or breathalyser.

On the road
- Most of Europe drives on the RIGHT. Take extra care at junctions, roundabouts and when overtaking, and give yourself time to adjust.
- Speed limits and drink-drive limits vary by country and are often stricter than the UK. Check before you go.
